During the time of Emperor Julius Caesar, the rich were enthralled with fashion and the clothing separated Roman social structures much as they still do today. The commoner (plebeians) and the nobility were easily identifiable at a distance. History has shown us how the Romans dressed through their statues and wall art as well as through the artifacts found by archaeologists over the years.
A roman solider carried a shield made of wood or leather to protect his body and a helmet to protect his head. Sandals would have iron studs on the leather soles so they wouldn’t slip on wet stones. After 300 AD, most Romans wore their swords on the left like the Centurions had always done.
You will likely wear your Roman costume for years to come because it will be such a success whether at Halloween or your local costume ball.
