Now that we’ve covered some of the Roman costumes and their armor, let us take a look a some of the Roman Empire.

Throughout Roman history, the armor became standardized. It was essential for protection of vital areas of the body. Although primarily used by the infantry, basic torso protection was needed even if Centurions and other soldiers were on horseback. Shields could be used by the infantry by interlocking them and advancing en masse on the enemy. Entire blocks of men could force the enemy back.

Of course Julius Caesar wanted his men to win every battle and the women wanted their soldiers to return home. The used of armor was vital in saving lives. Ancient Roman tunics were made from wool to help repel water and keep the men’s bodies from chafing as the armor rubbed against it. Helmets were designed to protect the head and neck. As costumes were developed, the fabrics used became softer and lighter.

Enjoy portraying one of the most reputable characters in Roman history, the noble warrior.
