What is a must for any Roman warrior is a good sword and shield in order to protect himself in case his negotiations don’t work. Perhaps he’s working on stopping the war between Sparta and Troy. We all know that no man wants to mess with a Roman Centurion who commands a legion of soldiers under the auspices of Emperor Julius Caesar.

Did you know that in the Roman Army, centurions were known for their skill in the use of the ancient sword and shield? They also had to display a temperate and vigilant manner while keeping up a strict discipline among the soldiers who had to be clean and neat and well dressed. They initially commanded a “centuria”, also known as a “century” of soldiers? After 107 BC, centurions were warriors, professional officers in the Roman army. They commanded 80 to 100 men. Later in history, Julius Caesar doubled the numbers of soldiers as he promoted his best centurions to a higher command.

Caesar promoted centurions if they displayed exceptional valor. The most senior could also be promoted from the ranks or appointed or elected by the Senate during the Imperial era. Since they usually led from the front in order to inspire their men, they also suffered a larger number of casualties. They were heroes that even the children looked up to. Who wouldn’t want to wear their Roman costumes?
